Description

A Bower Scene

"Thou unconsolable daughter," said the sister
"When will thou trouble the water in the cistern?
And what irascible blackguard is a father?"

And when young Margaret's waistline grew wider
The fruit of her amorous entwine inside her
And so our heroine withdraws to the Taiga

--------------------------------

I had a really hard time thinking of what to do for this one, especially because I had no idea what a bower even was (Ah, Decemberists, you and your archaic lyrics). So I did some research... and I'm still not exactly sure what it is, since there seems to be over ten definitions for it. Well, I heard one interpretation of the song that Margaret used to be a nun. Thus the "sister" portion of the song. So here's a pregnant Margaret fleeing the bower, the home of the ladies, and going back into the forest to be with William.

A "bower" is defined as a lady's bedchamber. A very archaic word :) My interpretation of this song: Margaret and her family are of high society. They find out she's pregnant and sort of disown her, hence the reason she flees to the taiga to find William.

I really like your interpretation though and I love this photo! Very cool. I can't wait for the next photos!
